Word For The Day: Wabi-sabi

Wabi-sabi is the Japanese idea of embracing the imperfect, of celebrating the worn, the cracked, the patinaed, both as a decorative concept and a spiritual one.

The process goes something like this: When a piece is broken, gold is smelted and used to rejoin the pieces and fill in the missing cracks and chips. The end result is that the piece is much more valuable than when it was brand new because it was broken.

It makes perfect sense that the Master Artist's skillful handiwork is shown most beautifully in our brokenness.
